The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel and Training) issued Notification G.S.R. 383(E) on May 21, 2026, from New Delhi. In exercise of powers under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the All India Services Act, 1951 (61 of 1951), read with sub-rules (1) and (2) of rule 4 of the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954, the Central Government, in consultation with the Government of Bihar, enacted the Indian Administrative Service (Fixation of Cadre Strength) Sixth Amendment Regulations, 2026. These regulations amend the Indian Administrative Service (Fixation of Cadre Strength) Regulations, 1955, by substituting the entries relating to 'Bihar' in its Schedule. The revised cadre strength for Bihar now includes 204 Senior Duty Posts under the State Government, 81 Central Deputation Reserve posts, 51 State Deputation Reserve posts, 7 Training Reserve posts, and 33 Leave Reserve and Junior Posts Reserve posts. The number of posts to be filled by promotion under Rule 8 of the Indian Administrative Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, is 114, while posts to be filled by Direct Recruitment are 262, leading to a Total Authorised Strength of 376. This represents an increase from the previous Total Authorized Strength of 359 for the Bihar IAS Cadre. The principal Regulations were published vide SRO No. 3350, dated October 22, 1955, with subsequent amendments for the Bihar Cadre listed, including G.S.R. 50(E) dated January 28, 2021.
