The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel and Training), through Notification G.S.R. 15(E) dated 9th January, 2026, issued the Indian Administrative Service (Fixation of Cadre Strength) Amendment Regulations, 2026. Exercising powers under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the All India Services Act, 1951 (61 of 1951), read with sub-rules (1) and (2) of rule 4 of the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954, the Central Government, in consultation with the Government of Telangana, has revised the cadre strength for Telangana. These new regulations amend the Indian Administrative Service (Fixation of Cadre Strength) Regulations, 1955, by substituting the entire Schedule pertaining to "Telangana" and its associated entries. The total authorized strength for the Telangana Cadre has been increased from 208 to 218. The revised breakdown includes 119 Senior Duty Posts under the State Government of Telangana, a Central Deputation Reserve of 47 posts (not exceeding 40% of Senior Duty Posts), a State Deputation Reserve of 29 posts (not exceeding 25%), a Training Reserve of 4 posts (not exceeding 3.5%), and a Leave Reserve and Junior Posts Reserve of 19 posts (not exceeding 16.5%). Additionally, 66 posts are to be filled by promotion under Rule 8 of the Indian Administrative Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, and 152 posts by Direct Recruitment. The principal regulations were originally published vide SRO No. 3350 dated 22nd October 1955, with previous amendments for the Telangana Cadre made by G.S.R. 511(E) dated 18.07.2014 and G.S.R. 469(E) dated 29.04.2016.
