Core Purpose

Order prohibiting certain classes of slow-moving vehicles from using the Sangaria-Santalpur section of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor under section 35 of the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002.

Detailed Summary

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), by order F. No. NHAI/PIU-Jod/2023/AJ/BM/Prohibition dated 30th October 2023, noted that the Sangaria-Santalpur section of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor (754A) is being developed as a six-lane, fully access-controlled highway from kilometre 206.867 to kilometre 968.865, running from its junction with NH-54 near Village Chautala in Haryana, through Hanumangarh, Suratgarh, Lunkaransar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Thob, Pachpadra, Balotra and Sanchore in Rajasthan, to Tharad and Vav, and terminating at its junction with NH-27 near Santalpur in Gujarat. It noted that maximum speed limits of 80 to 100 km/hour for four-lane-and-above divided carriageways on this access-controlled highway had previously been notified vide S.O. 1522(E) dated 6th April 2018, and that high-speed vehicle movement poses a safety risk to slower, more vulnerable vehicle classes. Exercising powers under Section 35 of the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002, NHAI ordered that the following classes of vehicles are prohibited from using this section: motor cycles (including scooters and other two-wheelers); three wheelers (including e-carts and e-rickshaws); non-motorized vehicles; tractors, with or without trailers; multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles; and quadricycles. The order is signed by Santosh Yadav, Chairman and Highway Administrator, under advertisement number ADVT.-III/4/Exty./531/2023-24.
