Following a further request for time to finalize its report, the Central Government, exercising powers under section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, has now granted a second extension for six months, effective from 11th October, 2025 to 10th April, 2026. The Commission is now mandated to submit its report by 10th April, 2026.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-06112025-267399 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 4845] NEW DELHI, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2025/KARTIKA 13, 1947 MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT (Deartment of Social Justice and Empowerment) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 4th November, 2025 S.O. 5000(E).—Whereas, the Commission of Inquiry (hereinafter called the said Commission) was constituted on 6th October, 2022 vide notification number S.O. 4742(E) dated the 6th October, 2022 under section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952), to examine the matter of according Scheduled Caste status to new persons, who claim to historically have belonged to Scheduled Castes but have converted to religion other than those mentioned in the Presidential Orders issued from time to time under article 341 of the Constitution, and matters related thereto; And whereas, the said Commission was required to submit its report and recommendations on or before the 10th October, 2024; And whereas, on the request of the said Commission, its tenure was extended for a period of one year from the 11th October, 2024 to 10th October, 2025 vide notification number S.O. 4780 (E) dated the 30th October, 2024; And whereas, the said Commission had requested for further time for finalising its report and recommendations; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952), the Central Government hereby extend the tenure of the said Commission, for a period of six months with effect from the 11th October, 2025 to 10th April, 2026. 2.
