NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 9th April, 2026
S.O. 1818(E). - Whereas, the Commission of Inquiry (hereinafter referred to as the Commission) was
constituted on 6th October, 2022 vide notification number S.O. 4742(E) dated the 6th October, 2022 under section 3 of
the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952), to examine the matter of according Scheduled Caste status to new
persons, who claim to historically have belonged to Scheduled Castes but have converted to religion other than those
mentioned in the Presidential Orders issued from time to time under article 341 of the Constitution, and matters related
thereto;
And whereas, the Commission was required to submit its report and recommendations on or before the 10th October,
2024;
And whereas, on the request of the Commission, its tenure was extended for a period of one year with effect from the
11th October, 2024 to 10th October, 2025 vide notification number S.O. 4780 (E) dated the 30th October, 2024;
And whereas, on the request of the Commission, its tenure was further extended for a period of six months with effect
from the 11th October, 2025 to 10th April, 2026 vide notification number S.O. 5000 (E) dated the 4th November, 2025;
And whereas, the Commission has requested for further time for finalising its report and recommendations;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952),
the Central Government hereby extend the tenure of the Commission for a period of two months with effect from the
11th April, 2026 to 10th June, 2026.
2. The Commission shall submit its report by the 10th June, 2026.
