NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 5th December , 2023
G.S.R. 875(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub -sections (1) and (1A) of section 3 of the All
India Services Act, 1951 (61 of 1951), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the
Indian Forest Service (Pay) Rules, 2016, namely: ─
1. (i) These rules may be called the Indian Forest Service (Pay) Amendment Rules, 2023.
(ii) They shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of January, 2016.
2. In the Indian Forest Service (Pay) Rules, 2016, in rule 5, for sub -rule (10), the following sub -rule shall be
substituted, namely: -
“(10) On promotion from one grade to another in the Service, a member of the Service shall have an option
to get his pay fixed in the Lev el of the higher post either from the date of his promotion or from the date on
which he subsequently earns an increment in the lower scale in the manner provided in the relevant sub -rule
above; in the latter case, on the date of promotion, a member of Ser vice shall be placed at the next higher cell
in the Level to which he or she is promoted with further re -fixation to be done in the manner provided in
relevant sub -rule above with effect from the 1st day of January, or the 1st day of July, the date of accr ual of
next increment in the lower scale.”

Explanatory Memorandum:
The Central Government has decided to amend sub -rule 10 of rule 5 of the Indian Forest Service (Pay) Rules,
2016 which provides for the fixation of pay of IFS officers on their promotion from one grade to anot her. The Indian
Forest Service (Pay) Rules, 2016 are being amended accordingly with effect from the 1st January, 2016.
It is certified that no member of the Indian Forest Service is likely to be adversely affected by giving
retrospective effect to these rules.
Note: The principal rules were published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, vide notification number GSR 924
(E) dated the 28th September, 2016 and last amended vide notification number GSR 916 (E) dated the 30th
December, 2021 .
