G.S.R. 568(E). โ In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) read with clauses (c), (f), (h), (i) and
(s) of sub-section (2) of section 52 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (1 of 2010), the Central Government hereby makes
the following rules further to amend the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, namely:-
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Legal Metrology (General) Fourth Amendment
Rules, 2026.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011,-
(i) in the Seventh Schedule, in Heading-A, in Part II, in paragraph 9, in sub-paragraph (2) for clause (ii), the
following clause shall be substituted, namely:-
"(ii) Substitution of standard weights at verification:
(a) When testing instruments at the place of use, any constant load may be employed in substitution of standard
weights, subject to the condition that standard weights of not less than one half of the maximum capacity shall
be used.
(b) Where the repeatability error does not exceed 0.3e, the portion of standard weights required under item (a)
may be reduced to one third of the maximum capacity.
(c) Where the repeatability error does not exceed 0.2e, the portion of standard weights required under item (a)
may be reduced to one fifth of the maximum capacity.
(d) The repeatability error shall be determined with a load, whether consisting of weights or any other constant
load, of approximately the value at which substitution is made, by placing such load three times upon the load
receptor.";
(ii) in the Twelfth Schedule, against Sl No. 2, for the letters and figures "Rs. 5,000", the letters and figures "Rs.
50,000.00" shall be substituted.
