These rules, titled the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Second (Amendment) Rules, 2025, shall come into force on 1st February, 2026. The amendment inserts a further proviso after the first proviso in rule 26, clause (a) of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, stating that "the provisions of this clause shall not apply to pan masala." The principal rules were published via G.S.R. 202 (E) dated 7th March, 2011, and were last amended by G.S.R. 778 (E) dated 23rd October, 2025. Short title and commencement. — (1) These rules may be called the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Second (Amendment) Rules, 2025. (2) They shall come into force on the 1st day of February, 2026. 2. In the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, in rule 26 in clause (a), after the first proviso, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:- "Provided further that the provisions of this clause shall not apply to pan masala.".
