Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Department of Consumer Affairs) issued Order S.O. 3549(E) on 31st July, 2025, to amend the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts Order, 2020. This amendment, titled the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts (Amendment) Order, 2025, comes into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette on August 1, 2025. Exercising powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 14 read with sub-sections (2) and (3) of section 15, sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 16, section 17 and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), and after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, the Central Government has substituted the entire ANNEXURE of the 2020 Order. The new ANNEXURE provides an updated and comprehensive list of States and Union Territories, along with their respective districts, where the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts Order applies. The principal order, S.O. 205 (E) dated 15th January, 2020, has been previously amended eight times, with the latest prior amendment being S.O. 4814(E) dated 5th November, 2024. (1) This Order may be called the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts (Amendment) Order, 2025. (2) It shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. 2.
