S.O. 4780(E), dated 30th October 2024, issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (Department of Social Justice and Empowerment), notes that the Commission of Inquiry constituted on 6th October 2022 vide notification S.O. 4742(E) under section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952), to examine according Scheduled Castes status to persons who historically belonged to Scheduled Castes but converted to a religion other than those specified in Presidential Orders issued under Article 341 of the Constitution, was due to submit its report by 10th October 2024 and had requested renewal of its tenure. In exercise of powers under section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, the Central Government extends the Commission's tenure by one year, from 11th October 2024 to 10th October 2025, with its report now due by 10th October 2025. Whereas, the Commission of Inquiry (hereinafter called the said Commission) was constituted on 6th October, 2022 vide notification number S.O. 4742(E) under section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952), to examine the matter of according Scheduled Castes status to new persons, who claim to historically have belonged to Scheduled Castes but have converted to religion other than those mentioned in the Presidential Orders issued from time to time under article 341 of the Constitution, and matters related thereto; And whereas, the said Commission was required to submit its report and recommendations on or before the 10th October, 2024; And whereas, the said Commission had requested to renew the tenure of the Commission for finalizing its reports and recommendations; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (60 of 1952), the Central Government hereby extend the tenure of the Commission, for a period of one year with effect from 11th October, 2024 to 10th October, 2025. 2.
