Core Purpose

The High Court of Delhi, with the approval of the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi, amends Rule 3.4 of the 'e-Filing Rules of the High Court of Delhi 2021' to revise maximum e-file size limits.

Detailed Summary

The High Court of Delhi, exercising powers under Section 7 of the Delhi High Court Act, 1966 (Act 26 of 1966) and Article 227 of the Constitution of India, and with the previous approval of the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi, issued Notification No. 6/Rules/DHC on January 24, 2026. This notification introduces an amendment to the 'e-Filing Rules of the High Court of Delhi 2021', which were originally notified vide Notification No. 11/Rules/DHC dated February 22, 2022, and published in the Delhi Gazette Extraordinary, Part II, Section-I, No. 06 (N.C.T.D. No. 476) dated February 25, 2022. The amendment specifically substitutes the existing Rule 3.4. The new Rule 3.4 fixes the maximum e-file size at 300 MB for the High Court and 20 MB for the District Court, noting that this size is subject to enhancement upon a notification being issued by the Administrator. For High Court e-files exceeding 300 MB, advocates or litigants are required to visit Designated Centres for enabling e-filing through the intranet. Similarly, for District Court e-files exceeding 20 MB, advocates or litigants must either split the e-file into parts not exceeding 20 MB or seek assistance from the E-Sewa Kendra located at the concerned District Court. This amendment is slated to come into force from the date of its publication in the Gazette and is issued by order of the Court, signed by Arun Bhardwaj, Registrar General.
