No. 186 PART IV GOVERNMENT OF THE NATIONAL CAPITAL TERRITORY OF DELHI BAR COUNCIL OF DELHI NOTIFICATION Delhi, the 20th August, 2026 F. No. 160/SF/Gen/2026.— It is hereby notified for the information of all concerned that, in terms of the order dated 18.11.2025 passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the matter of M. Varadhan Vs. Union of India, W.P. (C) No. 1319 of 2023, the elections of Bar Council of Delhi, were duly conducted on 21st, 22nd and 23rd February, 2026. The Bar Council of Delhi comprises 25 members. The election was held for electing 23 members. Eighteen members, have achieved the prescribed quota for being elected, while five women candidates have been elected through the process of reverse elimination, as prescribed by the High- Powered Election Supervisory Committee vide its order dated 09.02.2026. Further, two women candidates were to be co-opted. The names of these two women members are yet to be recommended by the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, in terms of the order dated 04.08.2026 passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Writ Petition (C) No. 581 of 2024 titled Yogamaya M.G. Vs. Union of India & Ors. DELHI GAZETTE : EXTRAORDINARY PART IV] The Hon'ble Supreme Court vide its order dated 18.06.2026 passed SLP (C) No. 21926/2026, titled Rudra Vikram Singh Vs. Bar Council of Delhi & Anr., directed that “counting of votes shall continue and be completed at the earliest, however, the result shall not be notified without prior permission of this Court". Accordingly, in compliance with the aforesaid order, the result sheets of the election were submitted before the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the said matter. Thereafter, the Hon'ble Supreme Court in its order dated 14.08.2026 in the above matter, inter-alia directed as under: “5. We direct the Bar Council of Delhi to preserve the entire record, including the original CCTV footage and the videography recordings and produce the same before the Tribunal(s). 6. Meanwhile, the results will be declared, but the same shall be subject to the outcome of the petitions before the Tribunal (s) 8. The Delhi Police is also directed to preserve the original CCTV footage and provide a copy thereof to the Delhi State Bar Council." In view of the orders of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India dated 14.08.2026, the Hon'ble Returning Officer has declared the election results of the candidates who have achieved the quota and also the women candidates in the order of their reverse elimination. The Returning Officer has forwarded the result for notifying the same in the official gazette of Govt. of NCT of Delhi in accordance with the rules. The following 18 candidates, having achieved the quota of 2,323.05 votes, have been declared elected in the election of the Bar Council of Delhi. 1. Shri Piyush Gupta 2 Shri Balbir Singh Jakhar 3. Shri Kumar Mukesh DELHI GAZETTE : EXTRAORDINARY Further, in compliance with the directions issued by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India vide its order dated 08.12.2025 passed in W.P. (C) No. 581/2024, titled Yogamaya M.G. Vs. Union of India & Ors., read with the order dated 09.02.2026 passed by the Hon'ble High-Powered Election Supervisory Committee and the letter bearing Ref. No. BCI:D:1097/2026 dated 18.02.2026 issued by the Bar Council of India, the following are the top five women candidates, arranged in the reverse order of their elimination: 1. Ms. Sangeeta Sondhi 2. Ms. Yukti Rathi 3. Ms. Amrit Kaur Oberoi, Sr. Advocate (w.e.f. notification dt. 09.07.26) 4. Ms. Anupriya Yadav 5. Ms. Garima Bharadwaj Accordingly, this partial notification in respect of the aforesaid 23 elected candidates is hereby forwarded for publication in the Official Gazette of the Government of NCT of Delhi. The names of the remaining two women members shall be forwarded for publication as and when their names are recommended by the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Delhi, thereby completing the constitution of the 25-member Bar Council of Delhi.
