The Indian Maritime University issued Notification No. IMU/HQ/ADM/Notification/2024/02 dated 30th October, 2024 at Chennai, whereby, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 47(1) of the Indian Maritime University Act, 2008 (22 of 2008), it publishes for general information amendments, made pursuant to Executive Council resolutions EC 2024-78 dated 05-07-2024 (and, for one item, EC 2024-80-01 dated 23-09-2024), to recruitment rules under ten Ordinances: Ordinance 02 of 2022 for Assistant Professor (Marine Engineering); Ordinance 39 of 2015 for Assistant (Non-Teaching); Ordinance 40 of 2015 for Assistant (Finance); Ordinance 37 of 2015 for Assistant Registrar; Ordinance 38 of 2015 for Assistant Registrar (Finance); Ordinance 36 of 2015 for Deputy Registrar; Ordinance 30 of 2015 for Assistant Engineer (Civil/Electrical); Ordinance 10 of 2015 for Private Secretary; Ordinance 05 of 2020 for Section Officer; and Ordinance 04 of 2020 for Section Officer (Finance); the notification sets out in detail the amended Para 8 qualifications for Assistant Professor (Marine Engineering) under Ordinance 02 of 2022, which for Category 1 requires a Directorate General (Shipping)-recognized MEO Class I (Motor) Certificate of Competency and at least six months' sailing experience at management level within the meaning of the STCW Convention, for Category 2 requires a B.E./B.Tech in Marine Engineering with at least 55% marks plus an M.E./M.Tech in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks, and for Category 3 requires a B.E./B.Tech with at least 55% marks along with a PGDME/GME course approved by the Directorate General (Shipping) plus an M.E./M.Tech with at least 55% marks, with a PhD, research publications per UGC/IMU norms and teaching experience listed as desirable qualifications across categories, and sailing experience given preference for Categories 2 and 3; the notification states that in case of discrepancy between the English and Hindi versions, the English version shall prevail.
