Detailed Summary

The Ministry of External Affairs (Overseas Employment and Protector General of Emigrants Division), through Notification S.O. 3940(E) issued on 26th August, 2025, has announced that the Central Government, in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 41 of the Emigration Act, 1983 (31 of 1983), has withdrawn the exemption previously granted to citizens of India going to Iran from the operation of Section 22 of the said Act. This action is taken with a view to protect and safeguard the interests of these citizens and supersedes the exemption originally granted vide notification S.O. 2161(E) dated 28.12.2006. The notification was signed by SURINDER BHAGAT, Joint Secretary & Protector General of Emigrants.
