Detailed Summary

The Ministry of External Affairs, vide S.O. 4504(E) dated 12th August, 2026, notifies, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 of the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities) Act, 1947 (46 of 1947), the extension of privileges and immunities to the Regional Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in India and its officers. This decision follows an exchange of letters between the Government of India and the International Committee of the Red Cross, India, to accord similar privileges and immunities to those contained in Section 7(b), 8, and 18 of the Schedule to the aforementioned Act. These privileges and immunities, previously extended vide Notification No. D-II/451/16(2)/85 dated 16th June, 1986, shall apply, mutatis mutandis, for a further period of two years, specifically from 13th August, 2026, till 12th August, 2028. This notification itself shall remain in force for this two-year period.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-13082026-275452 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 4324] NEW DELHI, THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 2026/SHRAVAN 22, 1948 MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 12th August, 2026 S.O. 4504(E).— Whereas in pursance of the exchange of letters between the Government of India and the International Committee of the Red Cross, India, it is decided to accord the Regional Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, privileges and immunities in India similar to those contained in Section 7(b), 8 and 18 of the Schedule to the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities), Act 1947 (46 of 1947) for a further period of two years from 13th August, 2026 till 12th August, 2028. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the aforementioned Act, the Central Government hereby notifies that the privileges and immunities extended to the Regional Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in India vide its Notification No. D-II/451/16(2)/85 dated the 16th June, 1986 shall apply, mutatis mutandis to the Regional Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in India and to its officers for a period of 2 years from 13th August, 2026 till 12th August, 2028.
