Core Purpose

Indian Nursing Council withdraws recognition of GNM qualification from Kuntala Devi School of Nursing, effective October 26, 2024, due to deficiencies.

Detailed Summary

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) issues a withdrawal order regarding the recognition of the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course at Kuntala Devi School of Nursing in Odisha. A notice was issued to the Odisha government and the school in May 2024 requesting recommendations on the institution's suitability. No response was received from the state government or the school. An inspection report dated January 29, 2024, revealed significant deficiencies, particularly in clinical and teaching facilities, deeming the institution unable to conduct the GNM course. Consequently, the INC, exercising powers under Section 14 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, declares the withdrawal of recognition effective October 26, 2024. Graduates holding GNM qualifications from this school will only be eligible for registration within the State of Odisha.
