L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-20072026-274613 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (i) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 577] NEW DELHI, THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2026/ASHADHA 25, 1948 5465 GI/2026 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY [PART II-SEC. 3(i)] MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 16th July, 2026 G.S.R. 636(E).— Whereas sub-rule (4) of the rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 provides that whenever it appears to the Central Government that it is in the public interest to do so, it may dispense with the requirement of notice under clause (a) of sub-rule (3) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986; And Whereas the Central Government is of the opinion that it is in the public interest to dispense with the requirement of notice under clause (a) of sub-rule (3) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 for amending the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6, 8 and 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986) read with sub-rule (4) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016, namely :- 1. (1) These rules may be called the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2026. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016, in Schedule I, in the Table, against S.No. 16, under the heading “Processes" in column (2), “Production of caustic soda and chlorine", in column (3), the entry, “16.3 Brine sludge” shall be omitted.
