S.O. 2374(E), dated 20th June 2024, issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in exercise of powers under sub-section (1) and clauses (v) and (vii) of sub-section (2) of section 3, sub-section (1) and clauses (c) and (d) of sub-section (2) of section 6, section 8, and clause (b) of sub-section (2) of section 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986), promulgates the Battery Waste Management (Second Amendment) Rules, 2024, effective on Gazette publication. It substitutes the Table under sub-rule (14) of rule 4 of the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, prescribing minimum percentages of recycled materials, by dry weight, required in batteries for financial years 2027-28 through 2030-31 and onwards: Portable batteries rising from 5% to 20%, Electric Vehicle batteries from 5% to 20%, Automotive batteries from 35% to 40%, and Industrial batteries from 35% to 40%. A note states the principal rules were published vide S.O. 3984(E) dated 24th August 2022 and previously amended vide S.O. 4669(E) dated 25th October 2023 and G.S.R. 190(E) dated 14th March 2024.

(1) These rules shall be called the Battery Waste Management (Second Amendment) Rules, 2024. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2.
