In Schedule-I of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, entries at serial number 1 for Caustic Soda are substituted with detailed standards: effluent limits (pH 6.5-8.5, Chloride 250 mg/l, TSS 100 mg/l, TDS 2100 mg/l, Oil & Grease 5 mg/l, Residual Free Chlorine 0.5 mg/l, Sulphate 200 mg/l, and a Bioassay Test requiring 90% survival of fish after 96 hours per IS: 6582-1971), maximum water consumption of 5 m3 per ton of caustic soda production, maximum wastewater generation of 1 m3 per ton, fugitive emission limits for Chlorine and HCl at the cell house and near the HCl tower, and process emission standards for the Hypo stack and HCl stack. Serial number 28, relating to chloralkali (caustic soda), is omitted from the Schedule. Issued as F. No. Q-15017/3/2023-CPW and signed by Naresh Pal Gangwar, Additional Secretary. A note states the principal rules were published vide S.O. 844(E) dated 19th November 1986 and last amended vide G.S.R. 436(E) dated 14th June 2023.

Short title and commencement . (1) These rules may be called the Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2023. (2) They shall come into force on the expiry of a period of one year from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, in Schedule -l, (i) At serial number 1 entries relating to ‘Caustic Soda shall be substituted, namely: - Caustic Soda Industry Sl.
