S.O. 3661 (E).—The following Order made by the President is published for general information: — ORDER WHEREAS under the provisions of article 82 and article 170(3) of the Constitution, as amended by the Constitution (Eighty -fourth Amendment) Act, 2001, Parliament enacted the Delimitation Act, 2002 (33 of 2002) and a Delimitation Commission was set up to readjust the division of each State and Union territory i nto territorial constituencies for the purpose of elections to the House of the People and to the State Legislative Assemblies; AND WHEREAS the delimitation of the constituencies in the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur was deferre d by Presidential Orders issued in terms of section 10A of the Delimitation Act, 2002 vide S.O. 283 -286, dated 08th February, 2008; AND WHEREAS the Delimitation Commission completed the delimitation exercise and the Delimitation Order, 2008 in respect of all States, except Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, was published vide notification number S.O.382(E), dated 19th February, 2008; AND WHEREAS the President, vide Notification numbers S.O. 903, dated 28th February, 2020, being satisfied that the circumstances that led to the deferring of the delimitation exercise in the State of Assam had ceased to exist, was pleased t o rescind the notification number S.O. 283(E), dated the 8th February, 2008 so as to readjust the division of the State of Ass am into territorial constituencies for the purpose of elections to the House of the People and to the State Legislative Assembly; AND WHEREAS the Election Commission was requested to conduct the delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies i n the State of Assam as per section 8A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950); AND WHEREAS the Election Commission has completed the delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in the State of Assam and made its Order No. 1, vide notification number O.N.19(E), dated 20th June, 2023 and Order No. 2, vide notification number O.N.33 (E), dated 11th August, 2023 in pursuance of section 8A(5)(e) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 read with Presidential Order issued vide S.O. 903(E), dated 28th February, 2020; NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred by the second proviso to article 82 and the second proviso to clause (3) of article 170 of the Constitution, I, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, hereby spe cify the 16th August, 2023 as the date on which the Election Commission’s Order No. 1, made vide notification number O.N.19(E), dated 20th June, 2023 and Order No. 2, made vide notification number O.N.33 (E), dated 11th August, 2023 in respect of the State of Assam, shall take effect.
