The Union Territory of Ladakh (Sitting of Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026 (No. 10 OF 2026), promulgated by the President Droupadi Murmu on August 27, 2026, in the Seventy-seventh Year of the Republic of India, establishes a bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh in the Union territory of Ladakh. Issued under the powers conferred by Article 240 of the Constitution of India read with sub-section (2) of Section 58 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the Regulation extends to the entire Union territory of Ladakh and will come into force on a date appointed by the Administrator of the Union territory of Ladakh via notification in the Official Gazette. The principal seat of the common High Court remains at its existing location prior to this Regulation's commencement. However, Judges and division courts may sit in Ladakh at a place appointed by the Chief Justice with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh's approval. The Chief Justice also retains discretion to order cases arising in Ladakh to be heard at Srinagar or Jammu. Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary to the Government of India, attested the promulgation.

In exercise of the powers conferred by article 240 of the Constitution read with sub-section (2) of section 58 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the President is pleased to promulgate the following Regulation made by her:— 1. (1) This Regulation may be called the Union territory of Ladakh (Sitting of Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026. (2) It extends to the whole of the Union territory of Ladakh. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Administrator may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. Explanation.—For the purposes of this sub-section, the expression "Administrator" means the Administrator of the Union territory of Ladakh appointed by the President under article 239 of the Constitution. (1) The principal seat of the common High Court shall be at the same place at which the principal seat of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh is located before the commencement of this Regulation. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), the Judges and division courts of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh may also sit at such place in the Union territory of Ladakh as the Chief Justice may, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, appoint. (3) The Chief Justice of that High Court may, in his discretion, order that any case or class of cases arising in the Union territory of Ladakh shall be heard at Srinagar or Jammu, as the case may be.
