Core Purpose

Directs that land acquired under Coal Bearing Areas Act will vest in Eastern Coalfields Limited instead of continuing to vest in the Central Government, subject to specified terms and conditions.

Detailed Summary

This notification issued by the Ministry of Coal directs the vesting of land, previously acquired by the Central Government under the Coal Bearing Areas (Acquisition and Development) Act, 1957, to Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). The land, measuring approximately 4.21 hectares (10.4 acres), was initially vested in the Central Government as per notification S.O. 4247(E) dated 27th September, 2024. Now, exercising powers under Section 11(1) of the Act, the Central Government orders that the land will vest in ECL effective from 27th September, 2024, subject to conditions. These conditions mandate ECL to handle compensation payments, bear expenses for a Tribunal constituted under Section 14 to determine payable amounts, indemnify the Central Government, and adhere to restrictions on land transfer and Central Government directives.
