Core Purpose

Indian Nursing Council withdraws recognition of GNM course for Florence Nightingale School of Nursing, effective 21.05.2024, due to deficiencies.

Detailed Summary

The Indian Nursing Council issues a withdrawal order for the recognition of Florence Nightingale School of Nursing, Andhra Pradesh, to conduct the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course. This decision follows a notice issued on 26.02.2024 due to identified deficiencies and the lack of response from both the State Government of Andhra Pradesh and the institution regarding recommendations for suitability. An inspection report dated 19.09.2023 highlighted serious deficiencies in clinical and teaching facilities, deeming the institution unable to run the GNM course effectively. Consequently, under Section 14(3)(b) of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, the Council declares the withdrawal of recognition effective from May 21, 2024. Individuals holding GNM qualifications from Florence Nightingale School of Nursing from this date onwards will only be entitled to register as nurses within the State of Andhra Pradesh.
