Passports granted under this directive must be for a period of five years at a time and endorsed solely for the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. This notification comes into force on January 1, 2026.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-01012026-268989 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 5919] NEW DELHI, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2025 MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 29th December, 2025 S.O. 6119(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Passports Act, 1967 (15 of 1967), and in supersession of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of External Affairs number G.S.R. 723(E), dated 22nd July, 2016 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, section 3, sub-section (i), dated the 26th July, 2016, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central Government hereby directs that the power to issue passports to persons who are not citizens of India under section 20 of the said Act, in respect of persons of Indian origin residing in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and holding Foreigners Registration Certificates issued by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, may be exercised by the Embassy of India, Yangon, subject to the condition that passports in such cases may be granted by the said Embassy for a period of five years at a time and endorsed for the Republic of the Union of Myanmar only. 2.
