Core Purpose

Indian Nursing Council withdraws recognition of Sonia Gandhi School of Nursing, Karnataka for conducting GNM course due to denial of statutory inspection.

Detailed Summary

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) issues a withdrawal order concerning the recognition granted to Sonia Gandhi School of Nursing in Gulbarga, Karnataka, for the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course. Inspectors appointed by the INC were denied permission to conduct a mandatory statutory inspection at the institution. Despite issuing show-cause notices to the college and the Karnataka State Government's Health Department seeking an explanation for this denial, no response was received. The INC's Executive Committee determined that refusing inspection implies non-compliance with prescribed norms and syllabus, rendering the institution unsuitable for nursing training. Consequently, recognition is withdrawn with effect from May 21, 2024, and GNM qualification holders from this school will only be eligible for registration within Karnataka.
