The Ministry of Home Affairs, via Notification G.S.R. 717(E) dated 5th August, 2026, issued the Assam Rifles, Rifleman/Riflewomen (General Duty), Group ‘C' combatised post Recruitment (Amendment) Rules, 2026. These rules are made in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) read with clauses (a) and (b) of sub-section (2) of section 165 of the Assam Rifles Act, 2006 (47 of 2006), and amend the principal rules, G.S.R. 351(E), dated 2nd May, 2023. The amendments to the Schedule of the 2023 Rules include revising the age limit to between 18 and 23 years, with relaxations for Ex-Agniveers (five years for the first batch, three years for others); modifying educational qualifications to Matric or equivalent or equivalent Army qualification for Ex-Army personnel; and specifying physical and medical standards as prescribed by the Central Government, along with mandatory Physical Efficiency Test and written examination, from which Ex-Agniveers are exempted. Recruitment will be by direct recruitment, reserving fifty percent of vacancies for Ex-Agniveers in every recruitment year, conducted in two phases by a Nodal Force and then through open examination for the remaining vacancies, respectively. Existing reservation provisions for various categories remain applicable, and five percent of overall General Duty personnel vacancies are reserved for Riflewomen (General Duty) until their strength reaches five percent of the General Duty cadre.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-ML-E-10082026-275332 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (i) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 653] NEW DELHI, MONDAY, AUGUST 10, 2026/SHRAVAN 19, 1948 MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 5th August, 2026 G.S.R. 717(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) read with clauses (a) and (b) of sub-section (2) of section 165 of the Assam Rifles Act, 2006 (47 of 2006), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules to amend the Assam Rifles, Rifleman/Riflewomen (General Duty), Group 'C' combatised post, Recruitment Rules, 2023 namely: - 1. Short title and commencement. (1) These rules may be called the Assam Rifles, Rifleman/Riflewomen (General Duty), Group ‘C' combatised post Recruitment (Amendment) Rules, 2026. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Assam Rifles, Rifleman/Riflewomen (General Duty), Group 'C' combatised post Recruitment Rules, 2023, in the Schedule, (a) in column (6), for the entries, the following shall be substituted, namely: - "Between 18 and 23 years of age. Note 1: The crucial date for determination of the age-limit shall be as advertised by the Staff Selection Commission or the concerned Nodal Force. Note 2: The upper age-limit shall be relaxable upto five years for the candidates of the first batch of Ex-Agniveers. Note 3: The upper age-limit shall be relaxable upto three years for the candidates of Ex- Agniveers."; (b) in column (7), for the entries, the following shall be substituted, namely: - "(a) Educational qualification: Matric or equivalent from a board recognised by the Central Government or State Government or equivalent Army qualification in case of Ex- Army personnel. (b) Physical and Medical Standard: Physical and medical standard for recruitment to the post of Rifleman/ Riflewomen (General Duty) shall be applicable as per Scheme prescribed by the Central Government from time to time. (c) The candidate must qualify Physical Efficiency Test and written examination as prescribed for Rifleman/ Riflewomen (General Duty) as specified in the advertisement for recruitment. Note: Ex-Agniveers shall be exempted from written examination, Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test". (c) in column (10), for the entries, the following shall be substituted, namely: - "By direct recruitment. Note 1: Fifty per cent. of the vacancies shall be reserved for Ex-Agniveers for recruitment to the post of Rifleman/Riflewomen (General Duty) in every recruitment year. Note 2: In the first phase, the recruitment shall be conducted by the Nodal Force for fifty per cent. vacancies earmarked for Ex-Agniveer or as per the instructions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs from time to time. Note 3: In the second phase, recruitment shall be conducted through open examination as per the existing provisions against the remaining fifty per cent. of the vacancies along with the unfilled vacancies of the first phase or as per the instructions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs from time to time. Note 4: The existing provisions of reservation for various categories shall be applicable for both phases. Note 5: Five per cent. of the vacancies of overall General Duty personnel shall be reserved for Riflewomen (General Duty) till such time that the overall strength of Riflewomen (General Duty) does not exceed total five per cent. strength of General Duty cadre".
