L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-05092026-276016 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 4729] NEW DELHI, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2026/BHADRA 14, 1948 2 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA: EXTRAORDINARY MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (Office of Registrar General, India) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 5th September, 2026 [PART II-SEC. 3(ii)] S.O. 4729(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948) read with rules 6A and 6D of the Census Rules, 1990, the Central Government hereby declares that- (i) The conduct of Census of the population shall be undertaken in the States of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and areas other than snow-bound areas of the State of Uttarakhand, from 1st December, 2026 to 4th January, 2027 with a revisional round from 5th January, 2027 to 9th January, 2027; (ii) For the conduct of the above Census, there shall be an option for self- enumeration from 16th November, 2026 to 30th November, 2026 just before the start of house-to-house population enumeration; (iii) The reference date for the Census in the States of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and areas other than snow- bound areas of the State of Uttarakhand shall be 00.00 hours of the 5th day of January, 2027.
