Core Purpose

The Central Government has decided to transfer the Muzaffarpur Jn.-Samastipur Jn. section from Sonpur division to Samastipur division of East Central Railway.

Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) issued a notification on 24th July, 2025 (F. No. 2025/E&R/1(3)/2) stating that the Central Government has decided to transfer the Muzaffarpur Jn.-Samastipur Jn. section from Sonpur division to Samastipur division of East Central Railway, effective from 1st September 2025, due to operational requirements. This change establishes a new jurisdictional boundary between Sonpur and Samastipur divisions on the Muzaffarpur – Hajipur section, located between Muzaffarpur - Ramdayalu Nagar stations at KM 50.000. Consequently, the existing jurisdictional boundaries between Sonpur and Samastipur divisions at Muzaffarpur - Kaparpura stations (KM 92.800), Muzaffarpur - Jubbasahani stations (KM 0.744), and Samastipur – Karpurigram stations (KM 36.820) will be abolished as they will now fall under the continuous jurisdiction of Samastipur division.
