The Ministry of Railways, Railway Board, through Notification S.O. 2354(E) dated 27th May, 2025, in pursuance of sub-clause (ii) of clause (b) of sub-section (4) of section 4 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, read with rule 5 of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020, hereby allows the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) to perform Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis. This authentication is for establishing the identity of ticket-checking staff, crew members, and passengers. The authentication can be performed using Yes/No or eKYC authentication facility at the assigned duty station during duty sign on/off before the start of and upon completion of their duties, or for their monitoring, as applicable.
