NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 27th March, 2026
G.S.R. 215(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of section 147 of the Delhi
Police Act, 1978 (Act No. 34 of 1978), the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is pleased
to make the following rules further to amend the Delhi Police (Appointment & Recruitment) Rules, 1980, namely:
I. Short title and Commencement:
i. This Rule may be called the Delhi Police (Appointment &
Recruitment)(Amendment), Rules, 2026.
ii. They shall come into force with effect from the date of their publication
in the Central Gazette.
Amendment of Rule-9:- In the Delhi Police (Appointment & Recruitment) Rules, 1980 the existing Rule 9, relating
to the post of Constable (Exe.) (Male) in Delhi Police, shall be deleted and substituted by the following:-
2) Number of posts, classification and Level in the Pay Matrix- The number of posts, their classification and level
in the Pay Matrix attached thereto shall be specified in columns (2) to (4) of the said Schedule.
3) Method of recruitment, age limit and other qualifications etc. -The method of recruitment, age limit,
qualifications and other matters relating thereto shall be as specified in columns (5) to (13) of the aforesaid Schedule.
(4) Disqualification- No person;-
(a) Who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living; or
(b) Who, having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person, shall be eligible for
appointment to the said post:
Provided that the Central Government may, if satisfied, that such marriage is permissible under the personnel
law applicable to such person and the other party to the marriage and that there are other grounds for so doing
exempt any person from the operation of this rule.
(5) Power to relax- Where the Government is of the opinion that it is necessary expedient so to do, it may, by order,
for reasons to be recorded in writing, relax any of the provisions of this rule with respect of any class or category of
persons.
(6) Saving- Nothing in these rules shall affect reservations, relaxation of age limit and other concession required to be
provided for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Ex-Servicemen or any other
special category of persons in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government from time to time in this
regard.

Note 2: The relaxation under OBC category is admissible
for those castes notified in the Central list and the list
issued by the Govt. of National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Note 3: Relaxation in age limit for compassionate
appointment will be as per the guidelines issued by the
Government from time to time.
Note 4: Ex-Agniveers:- 3 years relaxation in prescribed
upper age limit. Further, age relaxation of 5 years beyond
the prescribed upper age limit will be given to the
candidates of the 1st batch of Agniveer Scheme.
Educational and other qualifications required for the direct recruits

(1) Essential Educational Qualification:-
1. 10+2 (Senior Secondary) pass or its equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
Relaxable up to 11th pass only for:-
(i) Bandsmen, buglers, mounted Constables, drivers, dispatch riders and Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) of
Delhi Police only.
2. Essential requirement:-
Candidate must possess a valid driving license for Motor Car or Motor Cycle on the date fixed for Physical
Endurance & Measurement Test.
Note:- This requirement is not essential for post of constable Bandsmen/Buglers/Dog -Handlers etc.
3. Essential Physical Standard:-
A. Height: Minimum170_cms.
Relaxable by 5 centimeters for:-
i) Candidates falling in the categories of Garhwalis, Kumanonis, Gorkha, Dogras, Marathas and
candidates belonging to states of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura,
Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir and Leh & Ladakh .
(ii) Relaxable by 5 cms for ST Candidates.
B. Chest:- Minimum 81 Centimeters (with minimum of 5 cms expansion).
a. Relaxable by 3 cms for:
i. Candidates of hill areas as mentioned above.
ii. Relaxable by 5 cms for ST candidates.
Note 1: Relaxation in Educational Qualification, physical standard for compassionate appointment will be as
per the guidelines issued by the Government from time to time.
4. For Ex- Agniveers-Exemption from the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
5. Medical Standard for all candidates.
(i) Sound state of health, free from defect/deformity/disease, vision 6/12 without glasses both eyes, free from
colour blindness and without any correction like wearing glasses or surgery of any kind to improve visual acuity.
Free from defect, deformity or disease likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties. No
relaxation is allowed/ permissible to any category of candidates on this count.
(ii) Tattoos will be allowed as per following stipulations only:-
(a) Content - Tattoos depicting religious symbol or figure and the name, as followed in Indian Army, shall be
permitted.
(b) Location - Tattoos marked on traditional sites of the body like inner aspect of forearm, but only left forearm,
being non saluting limb or dorsum of the hands shall be allowed.
(c) Size - Size must be less than ½ of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.
Recruitment of Constables:-
(6) (i) Delhi being a cosmopolitan city, it is imperative to attract candidates from all parts of the country.
(ii) The Recruitment of Constable shall be done by the Board to be nominated by Commissioner of Police, as
per rule-8, subject to the availability of vacancies.
(iii) The Commissioner of Police may also order special recruitment at any time if there are sufficient number of
vacancies and the panels prepared earlier have exhausted.
(iv) A reserve panel/Additional list shall be drawn up of selected candidates on the basis of existing and
anticipated vacancies. This panel shall be valid for one year from the date of announcement of result.

Note 1: Reservation to vacancies for SC/ST/OBC/ EWS/Ex-servicemen/ Sportsmen/ Compassionate appointment will
be extant guidelines issued by the Government from time to time.
Note 2: 10% of the vacancies shall be reserved for Ex-Servicemen, Out of this, half i.e 50% of such quota will be
reserved for following categories of Ex-Servicemen:-
(a) Having served in Special Forces/NSG (Spl. Action Group) or
(b) Having received a QI' Qualified Instructors' grading in the commando course or
(c) Officers from the Navy/Air Force who have worked in the specialized commando type units.
Note 3: 20% of vacancies or as may be decided by the Government from time to time should be reserved for Ex-
Agniveers.
Note 4: The Commissioner of Police shall frame standing orders prescribing application forms and detailed procedure
to be followed for conducting Physical efficiency, Physical Measurement, written test for regulating the above
mentioned recruitment.
In case of recruitment by promotion /deputation /absorption grades from which promotion /
deputation/absorption to be made

1. One Deputy Commissioner of Police- Chairman.

Circumstances in which Union Public Service Commission is to be consulted in making recruitment.
