The previous fine of "not exceed five hundred rupees" for cleanliness violations is substituted with a direct "penalty of one thousand rupees." Furthermore, in the event of non-payment, the defaulting person shall be produced before a competent court, which may impose a fine extending up to "two thousand rupees." S. R. 758(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (g) of sub-section (2) and sub- section (3) of section 60 of the Railways Act, 1989 (24 of 1989), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, to amend the Indian Railways (Penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises) Rules, 2012, namely:- 1. Short title and Commencement. - (1) These rules may be called the Indian Railways (Penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises) Amendment Rules, 2026. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Indian Railways (Penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises) Rules, 2012, in rule 4, for the words “punished with a fine which shall not exceed five hundred rupees", the words "liable to penalty of one thousand rupees, and in the event of non-payment of the penalty, the person so failing shall be produced before a competent court having jurisdiction which may impose a fine which may extend to two thousand rupees" shall be substituted.
