These Regulations, published in the Gazette of India on June 16, 2026, amend the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020, which were originally published on August 11, 2020, in Part-III-Section-4 of the Gazette of India. The principal Regulations were previously amended on March 23, 2021, June 30, 2022, July 19, 2023, July 8, 2024, and June 6, 2025. Specifically, the 2026 amendment substitutes sub-regulation (2) of Regulation 4, which was last amended on July 19, 2023. The new sub-regulation mandates that candidates must qualify an aptitude test in architecture conducted by either NTA (JEE) or "NATA" by the Council of Architecture. An exception is made for admissions to the Bachelor of Architecture Degree course under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme of the Government of India up to the academic year 2020-2021, where SAT Subject Test scores will be considered valid for acquiring recognized qualification. No. CA/498/2026/MSAE(Regulations). — In exercise of powers conferred by clauses (e), (g), (h) and (j) of sub-section (2) of Section 45 read with Section 21 of the Architects Act, 1972 (20 of 1972), the Council of Architecture, with the approval of the Central Government, hereby makes the following Regulations to further amend the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations 2020, the same having been published in the Gazette of India, Part-III-Section-4 dated the 11th August, 2020, namely: - 1. (1) These Regulations may be called the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026. (2) They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the official Gazette. 2. In the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020, in Regulation 4 for sub-regulation (2), which was amended earlier vide notification dated 19.07.2023, the following sub-regulation shall be substituted namely :- (1) 2 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY [PART III-SEC.4] "(2) The candidate needs to qualify an aptitude test in architecture conducted either by NTA (i.e. JEE) or "NATA" by Council of Architecture. However, admission of candidates in Bachelor of Architecture Degree course under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme of the Government of India uptil the academic year 2020-2021 based on SAT Subject Test will be considered as valid admission for the purpose of acquiring recognized qualification."
