The Ministry of Home Affairs issued Notification S.O. 2353(E) dated 18th June 2024. It recites that, in exercise of powers under sub-sections (1) and (3) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government had declared the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) an unlawful association vide notification S.O. 1983(E) dated 14th May 2024, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section-3, Sub-section (ii), dated 14th May 2024. Now, in exercise of powers conferred by section 42 of the said Act, the Central Government directs that all powers exercisable by it under section 7 and section 8 of the Act shall also be exercised by the State Governments and the Union Territory Administrations in relation to the above unlawful association. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 42 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), the Central Government hereby directs that all powers exercisable by it under section 7 and section 8 of the said Act shall also be exercised by the State Governments and the Union territory Administrations in relation to the above said unlawful association.
