These rules further amend the Railways (Opening for Public Carriage of Passengers) Rules, 2000, which were originally published vide G.S.R. 625(E) on 21st July, 2000, and last amended vide G.S.R. 451(E) on 07th July, 2025. The amendment specifically substitutes sub-rule (3) of rule 24 in Chapter VII of the 2000 Rules. The new sub-rule mandates that 'Every temporary deviation line, irrespective of its length, and any permanent diversion less than 3 kilometers in length, shall be treated as new minor works.' L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-17062026-273544 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (i) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 434] NEW DELHI, TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 2026/JYAISTHA 26, 1948 MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (Railway Board) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 16th June, 2026 G.S.R. 485(E). — In exercise of the powers conferred by section 198 of the Railways Act, 1989 (24 of 1989), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Railways (Opening for Public Carriage of Passengers) Rules, 2000, namely:- 1. Short title and commencement. - (1) These rules may be called the Railways (Opening for Public Carriage of Passengers) Amendment Rules, 2026. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Railways (Opening for Public Carriage of Passengers) Rules, 2000, in Chapter VII, in rule 24, for sub-rule (3), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely:- "(3) Every temporary deviation line, irrespective of its length, and any permanent diversion less than 3 kilometers in length, shall be treated as new minor works.", [F.
