Core Purpose

Amends the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017, defining and specifying reporting grades for calibrated lump ore.

Detailed Summary

This notification, G.S.R. 232(E) issued by the Ministry of Mines on April 16, 2025, amends the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017. The amendment is made under the powers conferred by section 18 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. These rules are titled the Mineral Conservation and Development (Amendment) Rules, 2025 and become effective upon publication in the Official Gazette. The key changes include: 1. A revised definition of "calibrated lump ore" (CLO) in rule 3(1)(e) of the 2017 rules, specifying it as sized iron ore lumps obtained from crushed and screened run-of-mine ore, with a size range of 5 mm to 40 mm and a minimum Fe grade of 60%. 2. Amendments to Schedule-I, specifically Forms F1, G1, L, and M, replacing the reporting entries for item (iv) 'Calibrated Lump Ore (CLO)'. The new reporting structure requires categorization by Fe grades (60% to below 62%, 62% to below 65%, and 65% and above) for the 5-40 mm size CLO, alongside a note indicating that quantity already reported as general Lumps should not be reported under CLO.
