The Ministry of Home Affairs issued S.O. 722(E) dated 16th February 2024, noting that the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) had been declared an unlawful association vide notification S.O. 354(E) dated 29th January 2024; in exercise of powers under sub-section (1) of section 5 read with sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government constituted the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal comprising Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, Judge, High Court of Delhi, for the purpose of adjudicating whether sufficient cause exists to declare SIMI an unlawful association; issued under F. No. 14017/9/2024-NI-MFO and signed by Praveen Vashista, Additional Secretary.
