The Ministry of Home Affairs, by Order S.O. 4511(E) dated 14th October 2024, in exercise of powers conferred by section 16 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955), directs that the powers exercisable by the Central Government under sub-section (2) of section 9 of the Act, read with rule 40 of the Citizenship Rules, 2009, shall be exercisable by the District Collector, North Goa, and the District Collector, South Goa, for the purpose of inquiring into the acquisition of citizenship of another country by residents of the State of Goa and making recommendations to the Central Government through the State Government in accordance with the procedure in Schedule III of the said Rules; the delegation is subject to conditions that applications and objections be invited after due publicity by the District Collector, that the inquiry be conducted fairly and transparently in accordance with the Act and the Citizenship Rules, 2009, and that the District Collector make recommendations with case details to the Central Government through the State Government; the Order remains in force for two years from the date of publication; the notification bears file number F. L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-15102024-257919 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 4147] NEW DELHI, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2024/ASVINA 23, 1946 MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS ORDER New Delhi, the 14th October, 2024 S.O. 4511(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 16 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955), the Central Government hereby directs that the powers exercisable by it under sub-section (2) of section 9 of the Act read with rule 40 of the Citizenship Rules, 2009, shall be exercisable by the District Collector, North Goa and District Collector, South Goa for the purpose of inquiring into the issue of acquisition of citizenship of another country by residents of the State of Goa and make appropriate recommendations to the Central Government through the State Government in accordance with the procedure specified in Schedule III of the said rules, subject to the following conditions, namely :- (a) the application and objection shall be invited after due publicity by the District Collector ; (b) the inquiry shall be conducted in fair and transparent manner in accordance with the provisions contained in the Act and the Citizenship Rules, 2009; (c) after inquiry, the District Collector shall make recommendations to the Central Government through the State Government giving details of each case. 2.
