MINISTRY OF LAW AND JUSTICE (Legislative Department) New Delhi, the 11th August, 2026/Sravana 20, 1948 (Saka) The following Act of Parliament received the assent of the President on the 11th August, 2026 and is hereby published for general information:— THE SUPREME COURT (NUMBER OF JUDGES)AMENDMENT ACT, 2026 No. 14 OF 2026 [11th August, 2026.] An Act further to amend the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Seventy-seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:— 1. (1) This Act may be called the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Act, 2026. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 16th day of May, 2026. 2. In section 2 of the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956, for the word "thirty-three”, the word “thirty-seven” shall be substituted. Short title and commencement. Amendment of section 2. 2 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY [Part II— 3. (1) The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026 is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956 as amended by the said Ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of the said Act as amended by this Act.
