The notification, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (S.O. 1185(E), dated 8th March 2024, New Delhi), recites that, in exercise of powers under sub-sections (1) and (3) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government had declared the Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) an unlawful association vide notification S.O. 924(E) dated 27th February 2024 (published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section-3, Sub-section (ii) of the same date). Now, in exercise of powers under section 42 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Central Government directs that all powers exercisable by it under section 7 and section 8 of the Act shall also be exercised by the State Governments and Union territory administrations in relation to the said unlawful association.
