Detailed Summary

The Election Commission of India, through Notification O.N. 04(E) dated 9th February, 2026, and in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950), designates Shri Ashok Kumar, IAS (AGMUT: 2006), as the Chief Electoral Officer for the N.C.T. of Delhi. This designation, made in consultation with the Government of N.C.T. of Delhi, is effective from the date Shri Kumar assumes charge and replaces Ms. R Alice Vaz, IAS. Upon taking office, Shri Kumar is required to cease holding and forthwith hand over all other work charges under the Government of N.C.T. of Delhi. While functioning as Chief Electoral Officer, he shall not hold any additional charge under the Government of N.C.T. of Delhi, except for being designated Secretary to the Government in charge of the Election Department in the State Secretariat. Shri Ashok Kumar shall cease to hold and hand over forthwith the charge of all or any charges of work under the Govt. of N.C.T. of Delhi, which he may be holding before such assumption of office. 3. Shri Ashok Kumar while functioning as the Chief Electoral Officer, N.C.T. of Delhi shall not hold any additional charge whatsoever under the Government of N.C.T. of Delhi except that he should be designated Secretary to the Government in charge of Election Department in the State Secretariat.
