Core Purpose

Direction on the electoral rolls to be used for upcoming bye-elections in specific wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

Detailed Summary

This notification from the State Election Commission, National Capital Territory of Delhi, addresses vacancies in 12 specific wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi that occurred due to the resignation of sitting Councillors. Bye-elections are required to fill these casual vacancies in accordance with the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 as amended and the rules made thereunder. The State Election Commissioner, Dr. Vijay Dev, exercising powers conferred under the proviso to Section 7E of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 read with Rule 27 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Preparation of Electoral Rolls) Rules, 1975, has directed that the electoral rolls of the respective Assembly Constituencies, for the time being in force as they relate to these 12 wards, shall be adopted as the electoral rolls for the purpose of the ensuing bye-elections. This decision is based on the fact that the Assembly Constituency rolls have been recently revised by the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, with reference to 01/01/2025 as the qualifying date, and preparing fresh rolls would entail long time and expenditure. Additionally, supplementary electoral rolls prepared by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, under Section 22 & 23 of the Representation of the People Act 1950, as they exist on the last date fixed for filing nominations, shall also be included in the adopted electoral rolls.
