The Central Government, in exercise of powers under clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011 (11 of 2011), issued G.S.R. 792(E) dated 31st December 2024 by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, making the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of 150 Years of India Meteorological Department) Rules, 2024, effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette; the rules authorize a commemorative coin of one hundred fifty rupees denomination to be coined at the Mint, specifying a circular shape with 44 millimeter diameter, 200 serrations, and composition of pure silver (99.9 per cent), a standard weight of 40 grams with a tolerance of 999 parts of silver per 1000 and a weight remedy of plus or minus 1/8000th (39.995 to 40.005 grams), with the design specified in the First Schedule (obverse bearing the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend and the words "Bharat" and "INDIA", the Rupee symbol and denominational value "150"; reverse bearing the 150 Years of India Meteorological Department logo, the inscription "150 YEARS OF INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT" and the years "1875-2025") and standard weight/remedy specified in the Second Schedule, issued under F. No. 02/16/2024-Coin and signed by Aparna Bhatia, Adviser.

Short title and commencement .- (1) These rules may be called the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of 150 Years of India Meteorological Department ) Rules, 2024. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Denomination of coin .- The coin of one hundred fifty rupees denomination shall only be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government to commemorate on the occasion of 150 Years of India Meteorological Department. 3. Dimension and composition of coin . - The denomination of the coin mentioned in rule 2 shall conform to the following dimensions and composition, namely: - Denomination of coin Shape and outside diameter Number of serrations Metal composition (1) (2) (3) (4) One hundred fifty rupees Circular 44 millimeter 200 Pure Silver Silver - 99.9 per cent. 4. Design .- The design of the coin shall be as specified in the First Schedule annexed to these rules. 5. Standard weight and remedy allowed .- The standard weight of the coin of denomination referred in rule 2 to commemorate the occasion of 150 Years of India Meteor ological Department and the remedy allowed in making of such coin shall be as specified in the Second Schedule annexed to these rules. THE FIRST SCHEDULE [See rule 4] ONE HUNDRED FIFTY RUPEES OBVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “सत्यमेि ियते” inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devnagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA ” in Engl ish. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “ ₹” and denominational value “ 150” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol. REVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the logo of 150 Years celebration of India Meteorological Department . The inscription periphery of the coin and the inscription “150 YEARS OF INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT” in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “ 1875 -2025 ” shall be written below the logo in international numbers. THE SECOND SCHEDULE [See rule 5] Denomination of coin Standard weight Remedy allowed In composition In standard weight (1) (2) (3) (4) One hundred fifty rupees 40 Grams 999 parts of silver per 1000. The tolerance for Silver content shall be 999 and above. 1/8000th plus or minus that is to say weight could be from 39.995 grams to 40.005 grams. [F.
