The Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs), via Notification G.S.R. 779(E) dated 3rd September, 2026, has exercised powers conferred by clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011 (11 of 2011) to make the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) Rules, 2026. These rules, effective upon publication in the Official Gazette, stipulate the coining of a One Hundred Rupees denomination coin at the Mint under Central Government authority to commemorate the Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. The coin shall be circular with an outside diameter of 44 millimeters, have 200 serrations, and be composed of Pure Silver (99.9 per cent silver content). Its standard weight is 40 grams, with a remedy allowed in composition of 999 parts of silver per 1000 (tolerance 999 and above) and in standard weight of 1/8000th plus or minus (39.995 grams to 40.005 grams). The design, as specified in the First Schedule, features the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar, 'INDIA', rupee symbol 'Z', and '100' on the obverse. The reverse, as per the Second Schedule, bears the image of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, flanked by images of Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, a Film reel, and a Vintage camera, along with the inscription 'CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF MAHANAYAK UTTAM KUMAR' and the years '1926-2026'.

Short title and commencement. — (1) These rules may be called the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) Rules, 2026. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Denomination of coin. — The coin of One Hundred Rupees denomination shall be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government to commemorate the occasion of Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. 3. Design. The design of the coin shall be as specified in the First Schedule annexed to these rules. 5. Standard weight and remedy allowed. — The standard weight of the coin of denomination referred to in rule 2 to commemorate the occasion of Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and the remedy allowed in making of such coin shall be as specified in the Second Schedule annexed to these rules. FIRST SCHEDULE [See rule 4] ONE HUNDRED RUPEES OBVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word "भारत" in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the rupee symbol "Z" and denominational value "100" in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol. REVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the image of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar at the centre of the coin. The left side of the image of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar image shall bear the image of Victoria Memorial and Howrah Bridge and the right side shall bear the image of Film reel and Vintage camera. The inscription "महानायक उत्तम कुमार का शताब्दी समारोह" in Devanagari script shall be inscribed on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF MAHANAYAK UTTAM KUMAR" in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year "1926-2026" in international numerals shall be written below the image.
