Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Defence, under S.R.O. 12(E) dated 29th August, 2025, notifies the Central Government's declaration to change the name of the existing Ahmednagar Cantonment to Ahilyanagar Cantonment. This declaration is made in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 read with sub-section (1) of section 259 of the Cantonments Act, 2006 (41 of 2006), and follows the determination made by the Cantonment Board, Ahmednagar. The name change is effective from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette. This decision is consequential to the Government of Maharashtra having previously altered the name of the Ahmednagar district to Ahilyanagar district through its notifications Ganab-2722/CR-156/Japuk(29) dated 04th October, 2024, and TLC 2024/CR-146/M-10 dated 08th October, 2024, within which the cantonment is situated.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-30082025-265826 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 4 PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY NEW DELHI, FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 2025/BHADRA 7, 1947 5772 GI/2025 (1) MINISTRY OF DEFENCE NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 29th August, 2025 S.R.O. 12(E)— Whereas, the Government of Maharashtra has vide its notification number Ganab- 2722/CR-156/Japuk(29) dated the 04th October, 2024 and TLC 2024/CR-146/M-10 dated 08th October, 2024, altered the name of the existing district of Ahmednagar to district of Ahilyanagar; And whereas, the Ahmednagar Cantonment is located within the district of Ahilyanagar; And whereas, the Cantonment Board, Ahmednagar has determined to alter the name of the existing Ahmednagar Cantonment to Ahilyanagar Cantonment; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 read with sub- section (1) of section 259 of the Cantonments Act, 2006 (41 of 2006), the Central Government, as determined by the Cantonment Board, Ahmednagar, hereby declares the Ahmednagar Cantonment to Ahilyanagar Cantonment with effect from date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.
