No. 200/NITS/Estb/NIT Sikkim Statutes (A) 2023/23-24/RO/161.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 26 of the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007 (29 of 2007), with the approval of the Visitor of the National Institute of Technology Sikkim, the Board of the National Institute of Technology Sikkim, hereby makes the following Statutes to amend the National Institute of Technology Sikkim Statutes, 2017, namely:-- 1. (1) These Statutes may be called the Statutes of the National Institutes of Technology Sikkim (Amendment) Statute, 2025. (2) They shall apply to the National Institute of Technology Sikkim. (3) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the National Institute of Technology, Sikkim Statutes, 2017 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Statutes), in Statute 14, after sub-statute (iv), the following sub-statute shall be inserted, namely- "(v) In the event of occurrence of any vacancy in the office of the Chairperson of Board of Governors by reason of expiry of his or her tenure, death, resignation or otherwise or in the event of the Chairperson being unable to discharge his or her functions owing to absence, illness or any other cause, the Chairperson of an Institute of National Importance, may discharge the functions assigned to the Chairperson under Section 16 of the Act, for a period of six months or till the nomination of a regular Chairperson, whichever is earlier, with the approval of the Visitor and in case of expiry of tenure, the Visitor may extend the term of the incumbent Chairperson for a period of six months or till the nomination of a regular Chairperson, whichever is earlier." 3. In the principal Statutes, in Statute 17, sub-statute (15) shall be omitted.
