The Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs), through Notification G.S.R. 580(E) dated 26th August, 2025, has made the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of Birth Centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika) Rules, 2025, in exercise of powers conferred by clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011 (11 of 2011). These rules come into force on their publication date in the Official Gazette. A One Hundred Rupees denomination coin shall be coined at the Mint under the Central Government's authority for the Birth Centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. This circular coin, 44 millimeters in diameter with 200 serrations, will be composed of Pure Silver (99.9 per cent. Silver). As per the First Schedule, the obverse will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar, "INDIA", Rupee symbol "₹", and "100", while the reverse will feature Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's image, "BIRTH CENTENARY OF DR. BHUPEN HAZARIKA", and the year "2025". The Second Schedule specifies the standard weight of the One Hundred Rupees coin as 40 Grams, with a remedy allowed for composition of 999 parts of silver per 1000 (tolerance 999 and above) and for standard weight of 1/8000th plus or minus (39.995 grams to 40.005 grams). Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of Birth Centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika) Rules, 2025. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Denomination of coin.- The coin of One Hundred Rupees denomination shall only be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government on the occasion of Birth Centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. 3. Standard weight and remedy allowed.- The standard weight of the coin of denomination referred in rule 2 to commemorate the occasion of Birth Centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and the remedy allowed in making of such coin shall be as specified in the Second Schedule annexed to these rules. THE FIRST SCHEDULE [See rule 4] ONE HUNDRED RUPEES OBVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devnagari script and on the right periphery with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol "₹" and denominational value "100" in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol. REVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the image of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The inscription "डॉ. भूपेन हाजरिका की जन्म शताब्दी” shall be written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “BIRTH CENTENARY OF DR. BHUPEN HAZARIKA" in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “2025” in international numeral shall be written below the image of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
