Core Purpose

The Central Government notifies that Digital Sequence Information (DSI) shall be considered as biological resources for the purpose of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and its rules.

Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, through Notification S.O. 222(E) dated 16th January, 2024, has exercised the powers conferred by clause (w) of rule 11 of the Biological Diversity Rules, 2004, read with sub-section (1) of section 62 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (18 of 2003). This notification officially declares that Digital Sequence Information (DSI) will be considered as biological resources for the implementation of the aforementioned Act and the rules framed thereunder.
