The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), by notification F. No. 01-SP(PAR)-Notification-Pesticides/Stds-FSSAI/2017 dated 17th October 2024, records that a draft of amending regulations was published under sub-section (1) of section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006) on 20th August 2020 (Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part III, Section 4), copies made available to the public on 26th August 2020, inviting objections within thirty days; the objections received have now been considered. In exercise of powers under clauses (i) and (j) of sub-section (2) of section 92 read with sections 20 and 21 of the Act, FSSAI makes the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) First Amendment Regulations, 2024, to come into force on 1st April 2025, amending the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011. In regulation 2.2.1 (crop contaminants and naturally occurring toxic substances), the limit for Ochratoxin A in wheat, wheat bran, rye, barley and coffee is set at 5 microgram/kg, and the limit for Deoxynivalenol in wheat, wheat bran and barley is set at 1000 microgram/kg. In regulation 2.3.2, clauses (2) to (4) are substituted: fourteen named antimicrobials and veterinary drugs (including Carbadox, Chloramphenicol, Chlorpromazine, Clenbuterol, Colistin, Crystal Violet, Glycopeptides, Malachite Green, Nitrofurans, Streptomycin, Nitroimidazoles, Steroids, Stilbenes and Sulphamethoxazole) are prohibited in the production of meat, meat products, milk, milk products, poultry, eggs and aquaculture products, with an Extraneous Maximum Residue Limit (EMRL) of 0.001 mg/kg (0.0003 mg/kg for Chloramphenicol); antibiotic use is prohibited during honey production subject to Minimum Required Performance Limits (MRPL) for eight named antibiotics (e.g., Chloramphenicol 0.3 micrograms/kg, Nitrofurans 1 microgram/kg, Sulphonamides and Streptomycin 10 micrograms/kg); and tolerance limits (in mg/kg) are prescribed for antimicrobials such as Ampicillin, Amprolium, Apramycin, Albendazole and Amoxicillin across specified animal tissues and food articles. No. 01-SP (PAR)-Notification-Pesticides/Stds-FSSAI/2017.─Whereas the draft of certain regulations, further to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011, was published as required under sub-section (1) of section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006) vide notification of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India number F.No.01-SP (PAR)- Notification-Pesticides /Stds-FSSAI/2017, dated the 20th August, 2020 in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part III, Section 4, inviting objections or suggestions from the persons likely to be affected thereby, before the expiry of the period of thirty days from the date on which the copies of the Official Gazette containing the said notification were made available to the public; And whereas the copies of the said Official Gazette were made available to the public on the 26th August, 2020; And whereas the objections and suggestions received from the public in respect of the said draft regulations have been considered by the Food safety and Standards Authority of India; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (i) and (j) of sub- section (2) of section 92 read with section 20 and section 21 of the said Act, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India hereby makes the following regulations further to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011, namely:- 1. (1) These regulations may be called the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) First Amendment Regulations, 2024. (2) They shall come into force on 1st April, 2025. 2.
