Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying), through Notification S.O. 5299(E) dated 12th November, 2025, issued from New Delhi, has made further amendments to the First Schedule of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 (52 of 1984). These amendments are made in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 15 of the said Act, read with sub-rule (5) of rule 10 of the Veterinary Council of India (Procedure for recognition and de-recognition of the Veterinary Colleges and Veterinary Qualifications) Rules, 2017, after consulting with the Veterinary Council of India. Specifically, under the sub-heading 'DEGREE' against serial number 40, relating to Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, three new veterinary institutions and their qualifications are inserted: (v) Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet; (vi) Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni; and (vii) Veterinary College and Research Institute, Salem. Each of these institutes will offer the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) qualification, which shall be recognized only when granted on or after the 8th October, 2026. The First Schedule was last amended vide notification number S.O. 3443(E) dated 23rd July, 2025, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii) dated 25th July, 2025.
