It is necessary to publish the draft and final transmission plan well before the start of the plan period. For upcoming cycles, the five-year plan for generation and transmission should be notified six months to one year before the start date of the plan period. | Efforts will be made to prepare generation and transmission plans (National Electricity Plan) before the start of the plan period in the future.
2 | Prayas Energy Group | (I) Progress during 2022-23 and 2023-24 has also been included in the plan. This plan already includes a review of the growth of the transmission system during 2017-22.

The suggested process is being done separately. An analysis is being done to determine whether, after the ISTS waiver is gradually phased out, wheeling electricity from RE rich states through the ISTS network would be more economical than setting up RE within the state (with low CUF of RE).
Review the impact of ISTS transmission growth or planning on ISTS RE waiver and minimum connectivity limit (50 MW): An analysis needs to be done on the impact of ISTS waiver on ISTS connectivity requirements and whether connectivity, planning and operation for some projects in the intra-state transmission system would be more optimal.
6 | Shri Shankar Sharma, Energy and Climate Policy Analyst | To meet the increasing demand for electricity, new generation stations are being planned. To evacuate electricity from generation stations to load centers, a corresponding transmission network needs to be planned. While planning and constructing transmission lines, efforts are made to ensure that lines do not pass through environmentally sensitive areas; no-go areas etc. Efforts are made to minimize encroachment in forests.
Due to a sharp increase in maximum electricity demand, transmission infrastructure is also expected to grow on a large scale by 2047. The ecological and environmental impact of this needs to be assessed.
7 | Shri Shankar Sharma | To deal with the issues of climate change, focus is being given to the development of non-fossil sources like wind, solar, hydro (dam-based and run-of-river), nuclear etc. for electricity generation. Coal-based capacity is also being increased, though at a slower pace.
Since wind and solar resources are concentrated in a few states and are far from load centers, adequate transmission infrastructure will be required to evacuate electricity from renewable energy sources.

In addition, electricity demand will also have to be met in winters, when hydro generation will be quite low. Wind energy is also seasonal and there are times when wind energy generation is not available or is very low.
Therefore, a mix of generation resources and associated transmission lines is necessary to ensure electricity availability as per requirement.
